It was so nearly a red letter day for our apprentice Oli Searle as CRYSTAL CASQUE ran her usual solid honest race by filling second place at Salisbury on Thursday. Although wide enough in stall ten, Oli soon got her into a decent position and held every chance entering the final furlong before the better handicapped winner powered clear. She deserves to have won more than one race so far but having placed in ten of her other fifteen starts she is certainly proving to be a tough horse that provides plenty of fun for her owners The Dirham Partnership.

Also at Salisbury it was a nice debut for Lethal Force filly MAGICAL FORCE who showed a bit of speed as well as greenness before staying on encouragingly to finish seventh of eleven in what looked a pretty decent contest. Unfortunately SUFFICIENT just did not stay ten furlongs but having been badly hampered last time she got a clear round and travelled extremely strongly before the petrol ran empty. Oli also had another go on BIOTIC at Newbury on Friday and he looked dangerous before weakening into fifth of seventeen runners in the apprentice handicap but showed he is capable of winning when things go his way. MAWDE got a bump at the start at York and could never really get involved thereafter but she has come back sound from her race
