Two runners at Newbury bookending the card and both have good chances.
Strong son of Mastercraftsman that hasn’t quite achieved what we hoped for when buying him as a yearling but it was a clear career best when second to the very well handicapped Timoshenko, a Sir Mark Prescott individual that has won twice subsequently, at Chepstow last time. While it is clear he would prefer softer ground, that was a solid effort on a quick surface and the flatter nature of Newbury should suit. He receives a hefty 11lb weight for age allowance as a three-year-old this evening and with Pat on board, he has one of the more experienced riders in the saddle, hopefully he goes close to getting his second career victory.
Ragstone was purchased at last year’s Horses in Training Sales and has had a successful campaign, winning on his third start for the yard over course and distance back in June and has followed that up with two very solid efforts in defeat at the track, arguably unlucky not to have won at least one of those. His last race is working out particularly well, with the first, fourth, fifth and eighth all winning on their next outing so it looks very strong form and this is arguably an easier task this evening.
