Despite taking on a hot odds-on favourite, SPOT LITE showed improved form on his second handicap start to win by a nose at Bath for his owner Colin Saunders. Spot Lite is bred to be a decent sprinter, his dam is a half-sister to Gladiatrix (both Spot Lite and Gladiatrix are by Compton Place – a potential Jeremy Kyle scenario!!!) and Mattamia, both multiple sprint winners for the stable. It may be that like Gladiatrix, who did not get off the mark until the August of her three-year-old career, the penny has taken a while to drop and he could be a well handicapped sprinter going forward.

It was only half a length back to RIO SANTOS who produced a career best effort off a low weight and certainly suggests he can win a race, maybe over six furlongs. AIRSHOW may not have found the very quick ground to his liking and we will look for a slightly easier surface next time and LADY WOLF made a nice debut, finishing seventh in the fillies contest, only beaten five lengths and she will improve.
