Rod Millman Racing

Some of the Team at the Paddocks

James Millman – Apprentice / Assistant Trainer

James has been riding racehorses on the gallops since the age of 15, although previously he was more into Karting. Unfortunately Motor Sport is extremely expensive and a potential career looked unlikely so he turned his attentions to a different kind of horse power.

He had his first ride as an amateur on Paso Doble at Lingfield in November 2003 and continued in that sphere until February 2005, with four second places from twenty starts on the same horse. He then turned professional and combined this with taking his A-levels (English, History, PE and Latin) at Wellington School until he was able to turn his attentions fully to race riding when he finished his exams in June 2005.

His first winner came on Polar Dawn in July 2005 at Chepstow and ended up riding six winners that season.

He then joined Clive Cox for a six-month spell before his career took off with a move to Dean Ivory in May 2006. In his first full season, he had 15 winners from 224 rides, with rides coming from 39 different trainers, gaining valuable experience at tracks all over the country.

Unfortunately rising weight was always going to be an issue and he returned to the yard in March 2007 to combine his riding career with a role as assistant trainer.
Although the majority of his rides now come from this stable, it does help ensure continuality with the horses and he has ridden 61 winners to date and won over £375,000 in prize money.

James also gained valuable experience when overseeing the preparation of nine Jim Hay owned horses in Dubai during the Carnival in 2008, with Traffic Guard coming third in the Group2 Jebel Hatta and Yellowstone running respectably in the Sheema Classic.
Hopefully he’ll be taking some of our horses over in future Carnivals.

When he is not galloping at high speeds on the gallops or in races James races a Caterham racing car for fun!

Patrick Millman - Amateur Jockey/Work Rider

Patrick started riding ponies at the age of thirteen, competing in various disciplines from x-country to show jumping which has given him a useful background when it comes to race riding.

On just his third ride he rode his own horse Vogarth to success at Southwell in November 2008 before following up on Mustajed two months later.

He and the popular veteran Mustajed, who now runs in the colours of the Rod Millman Racing Club, have recently added another win and a good second place to their tally.

Patrick is currently studying mechanical engineering at Exeter College but rides out most mornings and throughout the holidays and is becoming a useful asset to the team.

He also has the distinction of being the work rider for the new girl in the yard, Tweet Lady, one of the first Twitter horses, she is quite a hit - read all about her, and join her club for FREE here. www.thepeopleshorse.co.uk
