It was a relief to get a welcome winner as CHAMPAGNE CHAMP certainly made amends for that narrow Wincanton defeat by landing a Class 3 Handicap at Ffos Las under Robbie Dunne by 29 lengths on Sunday! It was a seventh career success (fourth at the Welsh venue) and the seven-year-old takes his career earnings to £62,000.

It may not have been the strongest of races, by going off at odds of 4/5 Champ was certainly expected to win but it appears the blinkers have really got him back on track and the win was never in doubt. Our ‘reward’ for finding a weak race and winning by so far is likely a hefty rise in the weights over hurdles so we will switch him back on to the flat where he is pretty well handicapped and he has entries at Salisbury, Nottingham and Bath in the coming days.

Many thanks to Brian Kedward for the excellent collage of photos from Ffos Las.

It has been a quiet few days with just COBWEB CATCHER and PUZZLE CACHE running since our last update but both performed creditably at Nottingham on Saturday. Cobweb may have found the ground quick enough when finishing fourth (half-sister Sweet Pursuit loves soft ground) and Puzzle just ended up being badly placed entering the home straight but again stayed on well to finish fifth on her turf debut.

After a relatively quiet week, we are due to plenty of runners over the next few days, lets just hope we get a bit of welcome rain as the ground certainly needs it.
