HELLOFAHASTE ran out an impressive winner at Salisbury on Tuesday, coming from an uncompromising position to absolutely fly home to claim an unlikely victory. The daughter of Hellvelyn had made a promising debut when finishing fourth at Goodwood, with the Godolphin trained winner heading to Royal Ascot so we were hopeful she could take advantage of the drop in grade. However, she raced a bit green when dropped in behind horses and ended up too far back and out of her ground and looked an unlikely winner at halfway (matched at 180/1 in running). Still only fifth entering the final furlong, she showed an impressive change of gear to hit the front in the last fifty yards and ended up winning cosily. She won’t be overraced this year as she is a tall leggy filly that has plenty of size and scope to improve with time and we think she could be decent.
The weather has been frustrating, with rain falling at tracks where we did not want it and avoiding others when we needed it. Hopefully the ground is not too soft at Windsor as it won’t be ideal for two-year-old COMPTON LANE who could be a bit of a short runner. However, he showed more than enough to win this kind of contest when third at Salisbury on his second start on easy ground and hopefully his class can see him through.
