It was a career best effort from DUKE OF BRONTE, despite been unsuited by the very steady pace, stepped up in to Listed company at Goodwood on Saturday. He was outpaced at a vital stage when the pace lifted with three furlongs to go but started to stay on strongly and challenge for second when he was badly hampered inside the final fifty yards. Although he crossed the line in fourth place, the stewards rightly promoted him to third and he secured some valuable black type for his owner-breeders. It looks like he is ready to step back up to 1m6f and we will see what is in the programme book for him in the coming weeks.
It was a step back in the right direction for SIR RODERIC as he claimed third in an extremely competitive twenty runner amateur race under Pat at York, He fared best of those that raced up with the pace and it was great to see him running so well and hopefully he can build on that next time. MASTER GREY was not disgraced in sixth at Salisbury but found 1m4f too sharp and needs a real stamina test while the pace was not really strong enough for LIVINGSTONES QUEST but he was not beaten far in seventh and also picked up prize money.
