Tuesday is an extremely busy day for the yard with seven runners, six at Bath and one at Lingfield.
We start off with CONCUR and LADY FONTENAIL in the opener at Bath (1:40) and both could perform much better than their recent efforts suggest. Concur was never really right as a two-year-old but was much sharper on his return in maiden company at Lingfield and making his handicap debut he should improve, although we are not really sure what his ideal trip is just yet. While Lady Fontenail’s best run came when ridden by Alice Mills on turf so a return to similar scenario could see a better run off a much reduced mark.
MARCANO (2:10) has been a massive disappointment since showing so much promise as a two-year-old. He may not have enjoyed the very soft ground at Windsor last time, especially trying hold up tactics and hopefully he will make more progress on this occasion in the first time hood – he has much more ability than his rating of 65 – just hope he decides to use it!
Famous Name two-year-old DRAVID (2:45) makes his debut and although he will end up wanting further, he’s a pretty forward going individual and as long as he’s not too outpaced in the early stages should run well.
Although ICEBUSTER (3:20) is well into the veteran stage, the 8yo has been consistent on the AW this winter and returns to the turf in a weak looking Class 4 handicap. An honest individual, he deserves to get back into the winners enclosure after an absence of three years and is our best chance of a winner.
APACHE SONG (4:30) ran a cracker when third at 50/1 on heavy ground at Windsor on her second start. She should improve again for the step up in trip but as usual at this time of year it is a very competitive maiden and she will find life easier when handicapping.
At Lingfield, CAERLEON KATE (4:35) returns to the track after a long absence and hopefully she can show much more off a mark of just 45, having strengthened up from three to four.
While we also have a runner at Ascot on Wednesday in two-year-old COMPTON LANE (2:10). This son of Compton Place is a very speedy individual, certainly our sharpest one currently ready to run. This is normally the strongest two-year-old race to be run at this stage of the season, Handytalk finished second to Log Out Island last year and even though it is a tough ask, he should run with plenty of credit.
